Regarding your Security Key
Please remember to always keep your keys safely guarded. The
key contains the information to properly encrypt/decrypt your
data and without the key, you will not be able to access your
data. Your product is specifically designed to only work with
the key it came with. Remember, if you want to be able to
order a duplicate key, you will have to register your key
first. Without registration, we will not know the encryption
key that works with your product. Please remember that if
you order a new key that is different than your old key, your
data on the hard drive will be erased.
FAQ
Q: What is Cipher ShieldTM?
Cipher ShieldTM is our solution to the increasing security concern
of keeping your important data on the hard drive private and
secure. We uses Federal government approved encryption algorithm
to encrypt the data on the Cipher Shield Combo drive secure.
The secret key to encrypt and decrypt data is stored on the
key. Without the key, data cannot be accessed.
Q: What is the number printed on
the key? Is that important?
Yes, that is the serial number on the key and it is very important.
It is the number that you use to register the key at www.ciphershield.com
. This is the only way for us to verify that you are the legitimate
owner of the key to you drive. Without this information, we
cannot duplicate a key for you. Without the same key that
came with the drive, you will not be able to access the data
on the hard drive.
Q: I lost my key, help!
Did you register your key at www.ciphershield.com
? If not you will have to call us to prove your ownership
of the key before you can order duplicate key. If you did
register, please go to the secure website to order duplicate
key. We would suggest also that you order a different key
at the same time. After you have backup your data using the
duplicate key, use the new key and reformat the drive. This
is to make sure that no body else that have the old key can
get to your data.
Q: Can I recover my data if I lost
my keys?
A: Yes, but you have to have registered your key already.
The only way you can access your data is using your key. If
you lost that key and you have not registered your key, we
cannot make a duplicate it for you because we do not have
the information from your key.
Q: How secure is Cipher Shield?
Combo Hard Drive?
A: Depending on the drive you have, Cipher Shield provides
key that is encrypted in 64, 128, or 192 bits.
Q: Will I erase my data if I accidentally
plug in the wrong key?
A: No, the stored data will be invisible to you. However,
do not attempt to partition or format the drive because doing
so will erase the data that was stored on it.
